Darjeeling Black Tea
Darjeeling Black Tea, primarily brewed as black tea, is harvested between spring and fall. These traditional and popular teas are hand-picked and then fermented for 45-60 minutes, enhancing their flavour. The leaves are laid on fermentation beds, oxidising naturally through air exposure. This process produces a pale golden liquor with an aromatic taste and a hint of sweetness.
Darjeeling Oolong Tea
Darjeeling oolong tea sits between green and black tea, offering a semi-fermented taste similar to black tea but with the health benefits of green tea. Not all tea gardens can produce this special tea. It’s made from finely plucked leaves, usually two leaves and a bud, sometimes withered naturally in sun and air, wilted in a trough, lightly rolled, and fired at 220°C in a quality dryer. This results in a tea that combines the rich taste of black tea with the health benefits of green tea.
Darjeeling Green Tea
Green tea is renowned for its health benefits, and Darjeeling green tea is no exception, packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Produced by steaming and not fermented, the hand-plucked leaves are withered and dried through steaming or pan-roasting to prevent oxidation, resulting in light green tea rich in antioxidants. The liquor is greenish, with grassy, vegetal, and herbaceous flavours.
Darjeeling White Tea
Darjeeling white tea leaves are fluffy, light, and packed with antioxidants. With a mild aroma, they brew to a faint golden colour, offering a hint of sweetness and a mellow flavour. Similar to green tea production, these leaves are grown in the shade, preventing any sunlight from touching the tender shoots and buds. Handpicked, rolled, and sun-dried, this process makes Darjeeling white tea rare and special.
First Flush
Darjeeling First Flush tea, often referred to as the “Champagne of Teas,” is harvested in early spring after the winter dormancy. The tender leaves produce a light, floral, and delicate liquor with a pale golden hue. Known for its fresh, lively flavour and subtle astringency, First Flush tea captures the essence of spring in every cup. Handpicked and carefully processed, this tea is prized for its unique taste and aromatic qualities, making it a favourite among tea connoisseurs worldwide.
Second Flush
Darjeeling Second Flush tea is harvested in late spring to early summer, producing a rich, amber liquor with a distinctive muscatel flavour, often described as fruity and grape-like. The leaves are darker and offer a fuller body and more robust taste compared to the First Flush. This tea is prized for its unique flavour profile, which develops from the special growing conditions and careful handpicking process. It is highly sought after by tea enthusiasts who appreciate its depth and complexity, making it a signature tea of the Darjeeling region.
